Beauty Tuesday: e.l.f. Giveaway!

*This contest is now closed. Congratulations to Letitia for winning the e.l.f. eye kit!*

giveaway

Thanks to The Box Bitch, I was made aware of a great sale on the e.l.f. (eyeslipsface) website last week where you would get their “Girl on the Go” collection (a $225 retail value (actually $25, but they were comparing that to department store prices)) if you spent $20 or more on the website. My cosmetic bag has been in serious need of an update anyway, so a-shopping I went. If you aren’t shopping with e.l.f., you are crazy – the prices are absolutely unbeatable, and I find their products to be comparable to most drugstore makeups (Maybelline, Cover Girl, etc). Here is what I purchased:

  1. Studio Makeup Mist & Set – a spray to keep your makeup in place all day
  2. Essential Brightening Eye Liner in “Coffee”
  3. Mineral Eye Liner in “Coffee”
  4. Mineral Pressed Mineral Eyeshadow in “Miss Popular”
  5. Studio High Definition Powder – great finishing powder, especially if you’re going to be in photographs
  6. Translucent Matifying Powder
  7. Essential Eye Widener pencil with built in sharpener

Grand Total: $20.00 – already a steal! But then, I got the Girl On The Go kit thrown in for free. This includes:

I have to dye my hair frequently (prone to grays), so to prevent the color from bleeding onto my skin, I slather vaseline on my hairline, neck and ears. Any other remaining color of my skin can be removed with nail polish removed.

That’s a great idea! I just dyed my hair the other night, and luckily it was blonde (so not much chance of staining) – the packet suggested using conditioner in the same way, but I felt like that would slide right down my face. Vaseline is a great alternative!

My favorite beauty trick would be: Smashbox Photo Op Under Eyebrightner. the obvious is to use it under foundation to brighten your sleepy eyes BUT I use it to highlight various areas of face & neck/shoulders. Example: use it on your neckbone, brow bone and inner eye lids. I also dap some across my cheek bones. The way your face glows with just a little but of this product is amazing and it photographs awesome.

Good suggestion! I’ve been trying to figure out what a good highlighter product would be, I’ll have to give Smashbox a try.

I would say that my beauty “secret” is that I use all the Garnier Fructis hair products…shampoo, conditioner, but the best is using the smoothing milk (http://www.garnierusa.com/_en/_us/our_products/product-struct.aspx?tpcode=our_products%5Eprd_styling%5Efructis_style%5Estyle_discover%5Estyle_sleek_shine%5Estyle_sleek_shine_rtn2&prdcode=p60052) when I get out of the shower and my hair is still wet. It reduces frizz and keeps it smooth. When I straighten my hair, I finish it off with the Sleek and Shine Serum (http://www.garnierusa.com/_en/_us/our_products/product-struct.aspx?tpcode=our_products%5Eprd_haircare%5Efructis%5Efructis_discover%5Efructis_sleek_shine%5Efructis_sleek_shine2_rtn2&prdcode=p41029)….a tiny bit goes a long way- it tames flyaways from styling and makes my hair shiny 🙂

Ooh, thanks for the links 🙂 I’ve used de-frizzers before but didn’t like how heavy they were. I do use a Garnier sleek and shine but it’s a spray, not a serum. I’ll have to try that!

If you add cornstarch to nail polish you will get a matte finish. Thanks Julie!

Cool! Can you add it to a topcoat, so you get the sealer *and* the matte finish?

Contouring just under the bottom lip to create shadow and make it seems like a fuller lip. Great for special occasions!

I’ve never heard of this one, but it makes total sense! I really need to apply my art education to more areas of my life 🙂

Yeah I learned it from Mika, one of the artists for Illamasqua! 😉

Haha, yeah – it was pretty overwhelming, but of course exciting at the same time 🙂

I have stump-y and sparse eyelashes, combined with small eyes, so obviously I always try everything to get my eyes look more “lively” on daily basis without fake eyelashes (those things are great but I don’t have that much time every morning) . My tips for fast “awaken” eyes is to line deep among the roots of your eyelashes. Not literally “line” your eyes with pencil/gel/liquid eyeliner but dot it between your lashes. If you want, line your eyes after you dot. Next wiggle a volumizing mascara, again, near the roots. Do not tempt to swipe it through all your lashes’ length. Pick up another mascara in lengthening and swipe the rest of your lashes, avoid the roots to prevent clumping.

Great tip – I’ll have to try this! I’ve tried the “wiggling” thing, but I swiped it through my lashes’ length – I’ll have to try it your way next.

Make highlighter your very best friend. Apply on brow bone, bridge of nose, upper cheekbone, on your lips’ Cupid arrow, inner eye arch, and tip of chin for subtle yet dewy makeup look. Remember to blend tho.

I really need to get more into contouring! PearlsandParis (above) suggested Smashbox, is there a particular brand you recommend?

Happy Valentine! Hey is this contest over? Anyway I am using the balm Betty Lou manizer it’s really natural despite the swatch.

My most coveted beauty secret is using shimmer/gliterry eye shadow on top of your mate lipstick, just a dab in the center of your pout. Make my thin lips fuller!

      February 13, 2013

I’m loving all these contouring, shading and highlighting tips for all over the face. Does the eye shadow on top of the lipstick stay on for very long?

        February 13, 2013

Not if you’re eating and drinking 🙂 but what stays on your mouth after a meal and drinks? It’s mostly great for photo shots and events where you’d casually nibble and small drinks )

I put petroleum jelly to my lips at night so when I apply lipstick and gloss in the morning, my lips are soft and pink.

Can you let me know if you’ve shipped this or anything? :3 I tried emailing you but I haven’t gotten a response.

Yes, sorry about that! I looked, and your email landed in my junk box for some reason. It has shipped – for a second time (it got returned to me the first time, I think I messed up the shipping fields…. sorry about that! Not used to international addresses)

  13. Definitely believe that that you stated. Your favorite reason seemed to
be at the internet the simplest thing to have in mind of. I say to you, I certainly get irked even as folks think about worries that they plainly don’t recognise about.
You managed to hit the nail upon the highest and also outlined out the entire thing with no need side effect
, people can take a signal. Will likely be again to get more.
    Thank you
